Govind Sankaranarayanan is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer – Corporate Affairs of Tata Capital Limited, a subsidiary of Tata Sons Limited. Tata Capital is Tata’s foray into the financial Services space covering products and services ranging from Retail and Commercial lending, Distribution and Broking, Wealth Management, Investment Banking and Private Equity.

Govind is a B.E (Chemical Engineering) from the Birla Institute of Science & Technology, Pilani, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and a Masters in Finance from the London Business School.

Govind joined the TATA Administrative Services in 1992. He has also specialized on working in companies which are undergoing transformation by having been acquired, restructured or privatized. Most recently Govind was the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of VSNL International, where he was responsible for VSNL’s North American acquisitions of the TYCO Global network and Teleglobe. At VSNL, he was earlier closely involved in the business transformation of the company from a monopolistic public sector organization to a competitive global telecom service provider. Govind was one of the first managers who was appointed to a key finance and integration role at the Tetley Group, immediately after the acquisition of Tetley by TATA Tea in 2000Govind was General Manager of TATA Industries, where he was closely associated with the creation of TATA joint ventures with Bell Canada, Jardine Matheson and the Government of Singapore. He was also responsible for working with TATA entities in sectors as diverse as realty, composites, automotive components and tele communications.

Govind has been a Director on the Board of Companies including VSNL International, Tata Capital Markets Limited, Tata Capital Housing Finance Limited, Quikjet Cargo Airlines Private Limited, TML Drivelines Limited, TC Travel and Services Limited, e-Nxt Financials Limited, TT Holdings & Services Limited, Nectar India etc.

In 1999, Govind was awarded the Chevening – Managers for leadership award of the British Foreign and Common Wealth Office.

He has been invited to speak at various Institutes such as Deloitte Consulting in New York, IIM – Ahmedabad, IIM – Bangalore & IIM – Kozhikode etc. Govind also writes a fortnightly column on Finance and Governance in the MINT Newspaper. Govind is a member of the Banking & Finance Committee of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (Western Region) Economic Affairs Sub-Committee
