Irendra Chhabra is a post graduate in Business Management with specialisation in materials management and marketing management. He has over 26 years of experience & spearheaded key businesses in Retail, Telecom Infrastructure and Back-office Services. He has proficiency in successfully setting up and managing back office services for diverse businesses.

Currently, he is heading Global In-house Centre (GIC) as MD and CEO for $8B diversified conglomerate Essel Group having interest in Media, Entertainment, DTH, Packaging, Education and Infrastructure etc. He has designed, implemented and stabilized functions like HR, F&A, SAP and high-end processes like Legal, Talent acquisition, IT and Procurement functions for the group onto a Shared Services Platform that caters to 50 plus companies across India and international locations, namely Middle East, South Africa and USA.

Prior to his current assignment, he had setup Spend Management practice for another large diversified conglomerate Essar ($40B). He converted the practice into a revenue generating entity by externalising it globally and acquiring multiple clients and helping them to optimise cost and setup Shared Services. He has led multiple business start-ups to steady state in last 12 years under tough market conditions, viz.,

  • Set up and externalised global shared service practice for a large conglomerate.
  • Institutionalised strategic retail models for mobiles, accessories and after sales service making the brand a market leader.
  • Setup of Build and Lease model for Telecom Infrastructure sites for one of the largest Telecom operator

Apart from usual business, following are his personal contributions to the BPM & SSC Industry –

  1. He has been a key speaker and thought leader in global management conferences like Shared Service Outsourcing Network in Singapore, South Africa, round table conferences in Middle East, Asia Retail Congress, NASSCOM and Shared Services Forum in India.
  2. He has avidly marked his presence on forums with NASSCOM & Accenture to support Start-Ups.
  3. He heads the CIO forum for the group which strategizes and implements digitalization initiatives across all the Group companies.
  4. He is an elected BPM Council member at NASSCOM (2019-2021) and is contributing by mentoring BPM teams and providing needed support to achieve the council goals towards BPM industry transformation.
  5. In the year 2017, he was felicitated as the Business Transformation leader of the year, for his efforts towards the transformation brought at group level.
  6. In year 2019, he was recognized and felicitated as “CEO with HR orientation” at Asia Pacific HRM Congress, due to his efforts towards cultural transformation at EBEX.
