Pravin Purang

Purang is a Turn Around specialist, leading the Organization to Business Excellence. He has completed his B.Tech (Mechanical Engg.) and M.Tech (Industrial Engg.) from IIT Delhi. Completed Thesis on “INVENTORY CONTROL OF ITEMS HAVING ERRATIC DEMAND PATTERN”. The thesis was done for Indian Airlines –spare parts of aircrafts, and accepted for presentation in “WORLD CONGRESS ON PRODUCTIVITY SCIENCES”.

Purang started his career with TATAs, through Campus selection and worked in the Central Purchase Department, Corporate Office at Voltas Corporate during 5 initial years of his career, subsequently changed over in EICHER TRACTORS LTD. as Material Manager and continued to grow to become Head of Materials Management /Head of manufacturing and subsequently Head of Engines SBU and Tractors SBU of the Group. He then was promoted to Director level and managed Manufacturing and other business functions, to finally become Managing Director of Royal Enfield Motors and subsequently Managing Director of Eicher Ltd. He was also a member of the EICHER GROUP BOARD OF MANAGEMENT and a key member and active participant of CII, SIAM and Indian Institute of Materials Management; and also been a Director on Board of Eicher Consultancy Services.

Purang has been trained In Japan by JUSE(Japan Union of Scientists and Engineers) in TQM ,Manufacturing practices involving Kaizen, Kanban, Poka-Yoke etc. Concluded Collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors for making Trucks in India. Under PURANGs leadership the Royal Enfield implemented large nos. of strategies and was Turned Around (From being BIFR loss making company to highly profitable co.). The strategy has now become a case study, which is being used in teaching courses at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and has also been published in the book “Competition of Indian Industries, A strategic Perspective” Edited by Dr. Ravichandran, Director IIM Indore.

Purang had been Management Advisor to Jindal steel & Power Ltd (a 3 billion $ company) for over 10 years and was also Heading group Procurement of the company. Based on past experience and expertise Purang was given the aspiration to Turn Around the Steel Business of JSPL and was designated as Head – Steel Business Vertical.

He has been actively associated with Academics for the last more than 35 years with multiple insitutes like IITs and Management Institutes. He has also been a Jury member of the: Procurement Leaders APAC awards committee; UP Technical University Academic Excellence Award Panel; Giraffe Hero Awards 2015; WEE forum; Womennovator foundation. He has been felicitated with multiple awards for his innovative and excellent work in his professional life.
