Ramesh Krishnamurthi is an Indian Revenue Service officer, working as Commissioner of Income Tax (Systems) at New Delhi. He has a B.Tech. (Electronics Engineering) degree from Indian Institute of Technology-BHU, Varanasi. He has a M.B.A. from I.I.M., Calcutta and has worked at Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. before joining the Income Tax Department. He also has Master of Science degree in Finance from the Texas A & M University, U.S.A. His research during his stay at U.S. included Supply Chain Management, e-Commerce, Industrial Distribution and Enterprise Resource Planning. He has collaborated in the publication of research papers in journals such as Case Research Journal, Production and Inventory Management Journal and Review of the Electronic and Industrial Distribution Industries.

In his present role, he initiates all policy and technical matters related to Centralized processing of I-T returns and Electronic Filing of I-T Returns in the Department. He also plays a key role in conceptualization of the future business requirements in these two projects as they continue to evolve and in program management.

Prior to this assignment, Sh Krishnamurthi was on deputation to the Department of Economic Affairs as Director (Primary Markets) in the Capital Markets Division. In this role he handled policy matters related to primary issuances in the capital markets. He was a member in many SEBI committees as a Government nominee advising on regulations and market development issues.

In his previous assignment in the Systems Directorate, he had designed, implemented and managed -Centralized Processing Center (CPC) for processing of Income Tax Returns- at Bangalore. The CPC Project was approved by the Union Cabinet in February 2009. The CPC has already completed processing of over 7.56 Cr Income Tax returns since January 2010 till September 2014.

He has also designed, implemented and managed the Electronic Filing of Income tax Returns project since Aug 2006. The E-filing Project provides a completely end-to end solution for tax –return filing online for taxpayers and is expected to grow to over 3.4 Cr filings in FY 2014-15.

He has previously served on various national and regional committees within the Income Tax Department on modernization of tax administration and on computerization. His interests include systemic administrative reform, use of technology for business transformation, and business strategy management.
