In this fast-evolving digital era, new superfluid virtual markets have emerged largely due to the new technologies which have not just disrupted flourishing, existing businesses but also created many overnight successes. This has resulted in deep interconnectivity of technologies, processes and people in such a way that now everything seems perpetually connected to everything else – people to people, machines to machines, and machines to people.
This is an era where Business Services are serious contenders to becoming providers of competitive advantage. Contemporary business structures and operating models have become completely flexible and fungible to meet the dynamic and fragile nature of global conditions – preference of opex over capex, gig over regular, and simplicity over mosaic.
The new-age Finance leaders have the obligation to redefine the Finance function for this hyperconnected reality. This means taking a fresh look at the target operating model which enables the Finance function to work as part of an extended ecosystem, with deeper collaboration both within the organization and externally, to meet the range of challenges that constantly arise in this current world of eternal, unprecedented and unpredictable change.
Finance leaders are required to provide confidence that their operating model is fit for this more open and connected future, succeeding in a world where technology is constantly moving, and focusing Finance talent on major priorities by drawing on the domain experience and services of strategic providers.
