IBM announced Walgreens has implemented robotic processing automation (RPA) software from automation specialist Blue Prism to support its human resources (HR) function. The RPA solution delivers digital workforce capabilities that meet Walgreens' security and governance standards and enable employees to dedicate more time and attention to customers and patients. "A virtual team member can access the same systems, perform the same functions as a current HR shared services team member, freeing his/her time to perform functions of greater value," states a case study presentation by Curt Burghardt, senior director of HR shared services operations for Walgreens. HR processes that Walgreens identified for RPA, according to the case study, include paid time off accrual calculations and input, leave of absence notifications to managers, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation process, and much more. IBM said its enterprise automation offering with Blue Prism can help companies better manage workloads so employees can spend their time more efficiently, thus improving customer engagement, innovation, and helping transform the business.
