Raman is widely regarded as the Pioneer and “Guru” of the BPO industry in India. He is fondly referred to as the “Father of the Indian BPO Industry”. He has played a pivotal role over the last 25 years in promoting India based servicing and creating a competitive advantage for Global Enterprises and Midtier companies in the flat world.

Raman is a pioneer four times over, having successfully pioneered and led the BPO initiatives of American Express, GE (now Genpact) and Spectramind (now Wipro BPO) before starting Quatrro in mid 2006. Raman was the CEO of GECIS, the Business Leader for American Express’ BPO arm and the Founder and CEO of Spectramind. Raman is now the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Quatrro. Raman conceptualized and implemented the business strategy for all four companies. Raman launched Quatrro to focus on ‘Beyond the existing’ services in the high end and new areas of Business Processing through a mix of incubation and acquisition led strategies. These services are primarily targeted towards fulfilling the underserved needs, addressing uncontested market spaces and leveraging the ‘cloud’ technologies through third party and in-house developed platforms.

Quatrro has successfully pioneered Services in Technical Support, Book Keeping and Accounting backoffice areas targeted at the mid-market and retail consumers. Quatrro has also pioneered revenue enhancing services to cater to needs of mid-tier Banks & Financial Institutions in USA, Middle East & Asia Pacific by offering platform based Card Processing, Analytics, Risk Management and Mortgage Processing Services. In addition Quatrro pioneered specialist services in the Information and Media verticals providing Knowledge Management, Patent Analytics, Scientific Research and Functionality Compliance services.

Raman, with a guiding philosophy of enhancing the success rate of nascent businesses and encouraging entrepreneurship, is a founding member of the “Indian Angel Network”, a group of investors which has a passion to enable start-up businesses and entrepreneurs to create, scale and add value, while also addressing the current acute shortage of funds available for start-ups. Raman is a Regional Vice President and Board Member of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC). He is the Summit Chairman of the Indo-US Resurgence Summit 2013. He sits on the Board of Data Security Council of India (DSCI), The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Delhi-NCR and the Indian Angel Network (IAN).

Raman is deeply involved in shaping the future of the BPO industry in India, China, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Caribbean Region. He is a member of the Executive Committee of NASSCOM, Past Chairman of the BPO committee of ASSOCHAM, in addition to being a member of various committees formed by the central government and state-level governments. These include committees formed by various industry associations such as NASSCOM, CII and ASSOCHAM. Raman was also appointed to the high powered Working Group formed by the Indian Prime Minister’s Office for making recommendations on improving the supply of suitable talent to the IT & BPO sectors.

Raman is a rare example of a living practitioner of the BPO industry having created many successes and overcome many challenges. As a tribute to his contributions to the creation of the BPO industry in India and advocating it globally, The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) inducted him into their “Hall of Fame” in 2013. BBC Knowledge Magazine in December 2013 chose Raman as one amongst the 10 Game Changers that shaped modern India. Raman has also been awarded the Dataquest Pathbreaker Award in 2002, the 2006 CfE Management Development Institute Award for Corporate Entrepreneurship and the Trailblazer Award for individual achievement at the Shared Service + Outsourcing: 2007 Global Conclave. He has also received the Indiatimes BPO award for being the “Most Significant Contributor to the Industry” and the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA) 2009, the IT People Entrepreneur of the Year at the 3rd IT people Awards among others. Raman was awarded Distinguished Alumni by Shri Ram College of Commerce and Business Leader of the Year 2008 by the Committee of Members Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was inducted into the Power Brands Hall of Fame in 2011-12 and awarded “Udyog Rattan 2007” by the Institute of Economic Studies. Raman has participated in directly creating 35,000+ jobs in India and indirectly enabling the employment of over 1,000,000+ people by his pioneering efforts that led to the creation of the BPO industry.

Raman is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Management Accountant with a Doctorate in Management Accountancy. In his career spanning 30+ years, he has handled roles in Finance, Consulting, Operations and General Management with equal ease. He has a very hands-on approach to business and has first-hand experience and rare insights into servicing markets as diverse as North America, Europe, Japan, Asia Pacific and Australia.
